Recruitment Q&A

Here are the questions and answers to the questions asked yesterday on @untpan's Instagram Story!

Q: If I am unsure about going through recruitment should I still go for it?

A: Absolutely! The Greek Community at UNT is something so special and our sororities have something for everyone. The Recruitment process can be overwhelming but it's truly so worth it in the end.

Q: What is going to happen if we are still in quarantine?

A: We are currently and will continue to follow both CDC and University guidelines in response to COVID-19. We are continuously monitoring the situation but as of now are planning on Recruitment happening as normal. If anything changes we will let everyone know ASAP.

Q: Can I go through Recruitment if I am currently a Junior at UNT?

A: Yes! Anyone who will be a UNT student in the fall may go through Recruitment and we have girls of all ages participate in Fall Recruitment. Please don't let your age or classification stop you, you never know how things could work out!

Q: How long is the Recruitment Process?

A: Recruitment is four days long. There will be four days where you go to the sororities and get to know more about them. The fifth and final day is Bid Day where you will find out where you will be running home. The first day of Recruitment is the longest by far and will last all day long, but as the days go on you will be going to less and less houses so the days will be shorter.

Q: What should I wear?

A: We have outfit inspiration on the Recruitment page of this Website. As Recruitment continues the days get dressier and dressier. Day One is a UNT Shirt and shorts or a skirt. Day Two is a cute/casual outfit. Day Three is casual sundress/romper but still a little nice. Finally, Day Four is semi-formal and the most dressy of all the days.

Q: When is Bid Day?

A: Bid Day is Monday, August 24th at 5pm. This is the first day of classes, and will be the Monday following Recruitment.

Q: Are recommendation letters required?

A: You are welcome to send recommendation letters to the Chapters, however we do not require letters or packets like other schools do. You will be successful during recruitment with or without letters as we focus on putting on a values based recruitment. This means the chapters want to get to know YOU! What you look like on paper is not nearly as important as who you are and being yourself.

Recipe of the Month - Blueberry Scones

Our Panhellenic VP Scholarship is also a Master Chef, here are her Blueberry Scones! If you try this recipe tag us in your story @untpan and we will repost it!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 2 sticks of butter, softened

  • 1 ½ cups fresh blueberries

  • 1 lemon, zest and juice7

  • ½ cup half and half

  • One egg

  • One egg, well beaten for an egg wash

  • Extra sugar to sprinkle on top

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400℉

  2. Mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl. With a fork, work the softened butter into the dry mixture until the butter is turned into pea sized pieces. Next, carefully stir in the blueberries.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the juice and zest of one lemon, half and half, and one egg.

  4. Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, making sure the blueberries are not broken.

  5. Transfer biscuit sized rounds of dough to a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle tops with sugar.

  6. Bake for 20-24 minutes. About half way through, rotate the pan, so they cook evenly. If you’re baking multiple pans at a time, switch the top and bottom half way through as well.

  7. Enjoy!

Sister Sorority Spotlights

Alpha Delta Pi

Sydni Rohrs

Sydni had an amazing experience that she wanted to share about: "I went to Houston to work with an organization that provides resources to refugees and people who are seeking asylum in the US. My team and I got to help a family practice speaking English, assist in creating resumes, and learn about the process of seeking refuge or asylum. We also prepared to work with the Guardian Angel program, which allows volunteers to attend immigration court hearings to ensure that minors are treated fairly. Although we didn’t get to attend court ourselves due to concerns with COVID-19, we are preparing to continue this work in the DFW area. It was an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to go again next year!"

Kappa Delta

Maria Lawson

Maria currently serves Kappa Delta as the assistant to the Vice President of Finance. In the Fall, she will take on the role of SET leader to help the new members in Kappa Delta feel more at home. Maria serves even beyond her sorority. She serves Eaglethon, UNT's Dance Marathon for the Kids, as the Director of Sponsorships. She is also a senior staff writer for the North Texas Daily and a UPCrew member for the University Program Council. One of her sisters said this about Maria: "Maria is so inspiring and a great leader. She exudes confidence in everything she does. We couldn't be more proud to call her a sister!"
